Our 2021 Judges 

Chair of Show - Mr Andrew Corrigan MW

Andrew Corrigan MW has been fascinated by food and wine from a young age. He became a Master of Wine in 1997 after passing the rigorous exams of the London based Institute of Masters of Wine. Andrew is one of fifteen Masters of Wine in Australia, of which there are only about 400 in the world. He has been involved in restaurant ownership and management and has consulted on several award winning wine lists. He is a regular contributor to Winestate Magazine, The Wine Spectator (U.S) The Courier Mail, The Sydney Morning Herald and Gourmet Traveller. He is known as an excellent wine educator and presents regularly in Australia as well as at international seminars for the Masters of Wine.

Andrew Corrigan MW was the instigator of the Cairns Show Wine Awards with the view of promoting wines suitable or adaptable to the tropical palate and lifestyle.

Panel Judge - Hamish Seabrook

Currently Hamish is not only Winemaker and Managing Director of his own company Seabrook Wine but also Senior Winemaker for Kirrihill Wines. Prior to this he held the role of Senior Winemaker/ Manager at Brown Brother, Milawa and Winemaker at Bests, Great Western. Hamish a fifth generation winemaker regularly judges at varies wine shows including Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Rutherglen and Barossa. Hamish holds many achievements to date include numerous awards, trophies, medals and the Dux of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial 2004.

Panel Judge - Mr Andrew Higgins

Andrew Higgins is a man devoted to the wine industry, why else would you complete not one but two industry relevant degrees? By attaining a detailed knowledge of not just wine science but also viticulture Andrew or Higgo as he is known, has been able to blend his practical knowledge with a creative flair. This balance in wine understanding has led to him now being responsible for overseeing the stylistic development and winemaking across the McWilliam’s range.

Panel Judge -   Mr Geoff Alexander

Geoff is currently Winemaker for the Brown Family Wine Group.

A former Pharmacist, Geoff saw the opportunity to transfer his skills to the wine industry and began studying winemaking at the University of Adelaide in 2002. He successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons) (Oenology) in 2004, along the way collecting the Brokenwood Wines Prize (top second year student) and a University Medal for outstanding academic achievement.

Having completed the 2004 vintage at Brokenwood Wines in the Hunter Valley, Geoff joined the Brown Family Wine Group as Assistant Winemaker for the 2005 vintage. Initially a 3 month position, at the completion of vintage the company decided to expand its winemaking team and the position was made permanent.

In October 2007, Geoff was promoted to the position of Winemaker and is now responsible for a portfolio of red, white, sparkling and fortified wines at a range of price points including the Innocent Bystander brand. He is particularly interested in the development of new varieties and wine styles, something for which the Brown Family Wine Group is rightly famous.
